Langley Mill's replied on: 7/9/2006 7:49:17 PM The bell in the tower of Langley Mill Church is dedicated to the memory of Mary Elizabeth McCartney, who died on 19/12/1932, aged 71. Can anyone throw any light on this benefactress? There is also a plaque inside the church to the memory of Mary Elizabeth McCartney and also to Margaret Jane McCartney, who died 27/4/1936, aged 74. I have never come across the name McCartney in Langley Mill - they must have been fairly well-to-do though, to pay for a bell out of their estate.
