replied on: 9/15/2006 10:43:29 PM Tony (Ausi)'s pictures form a new photo gallery on the main website this month. Many thanks indeed for the most complete set of photos of a single station that you could ever expect to see. Let me know what you think. And if there are any train buffs out there who feel that I need to add, alter or correct anything on the page, then please let me know. |

replied on: 9/12/2006 9:18:33 PM It is not the same picture but it is of the same vehicle. Mine show it once it had been extracted from the station and towed back to the garage. I'll do you a swop on the picture front. |

replied on: 9/11/2006 9:53:39 PM I have photographs of a Midland General FLF double decker taken after it had been in collision with the station roof! The vehicle was travelling 'light' from Eastwood back to the garage and after coming around the bend in Derby Road and over the bridge was faced with a road accident. In trying to avoid hitting the cars involved the driver turned towards the kerb, hit it and with the resulting loss of control ended up in the station buildings. As the vehicle in question was new in 1966 and it was not very old when the accident happened it gives some more dates for the pot! |

replied on: 9/11/2006 7:50:56 AM I've checked the closure dates. As Phil says, the station closed on 7 January 1963, but coal traffic from Moorgreen continued to use the line until May 1966. The station building was still standing in September 1969 (though the tracks were gone by then). I can't find a date for when the buildings were demolished. |

replied on: 9/11/2006 7:28:14 AM ![]() A drawing sent in by Tony of the garden railway. Tony has sent me so many photographs of the Langley Mill and Eastwood station, taken after closure, that rather than pasting them onto here I shall shortly be adding a new page to the main site to deal with them. |

replied on: 8/28/2006 1:24:55 PM Hi Russell Well it's a small world isn't it. Mum asked about Win Georges wife and she told me that you have a cousin in w.a.? Yes dad has the two triang brush diesels but does not know their whereabouts. I think my brother has one of them. Sadly I have to tell you Kenney passed away in 1998 after a long illness so just the three of us now. Ok on a lighter note I do remember the signalbox at the bottom of the garden but that's where the line stopped. There was talk of going through Peters garden and on to ours but this did not happen sadly. I have one or two photos of me at Langley mill and one you can see Georges house I can send them has attachments when you send to my email address thats if you have it Best Regards Tony |

replied on: 8/25/2006 12:09:05 PM Hi Tony, Well what a small world. I hadnt seen your email till just now, but i thought that it must be you, the coincidence was too great. Well my grandad george died in 1991 aged 74 sadly and also sadly i dont have the steam loco ( a 5 inch gauge live steam single wheeler, vaguely GCR in design called the 'rowney queen'). When he died my younger brother who wasnt even born when you left claimed my grandad had left it him and as theres little more squalid than squabbling over a will I let it go. And he sold it a few weeks later. I wish I still had it. The track as you may remember was made of bedirons and yes I well recall him pushing us around in it. And the garden shed built like a signalbox. Very happy times (sniff). So many things to remember, i'll send you an email but before i go one tale that may amuse. Your dad had on his layout two triang green brush 2s (d5572) and when I was a kid I always called the real things 'Kenny Greens diesels' and sad to say I still cant see one of the real things without thinking of that even though im now 43. Cheers Russ |

replied on: 8/21/2006 1:58:05 PM Hi Russell yes the coincidnce is remarkable I guess you found my email. I sent one or two of them. Do you remember the railway down the garden and George pushing us up and down in the coach? What happened to the steam loco, do you have it now? or was it sold? Dad was over-there last year and he went for a look at the black 5 at M.R.C Butterley. I have some pics of Eastwood station and boxes I can email some to you if I can find a way where I don't have to stand on my head. thanks, lots to tell and lots to ask. Best regards Tony |

replied on: 8/20/2006 3:12:00 PM Passenger traffic did stop in 1963 but freight ran for a while after. I distinctly recall a steam loco in the station there seen from the top of a bus when i could have been no older than 3. It remained derelict until about 1970 and was then cleared away. In 1974 the bypass was built though it didnt come as far as the station site then. |

replied on: 8/20/2006 3:08:53 PM Hi Ausi, By any chance are you Tony green, son of Ken? If so I remember you well as we used to play together and your dad and my grandad George Wild of Horsley crescent were pals. If not of course all this is meaningless but the coincidence must be remarkable if not. |
