Just a thought Porkpiebaby, but when Gervase Pepperday married Ellen Slack in 1804 she already had an illegitimate daughter called Hannah, born 1801.
If this were the same Hannah Slack who married Mr Clarke, then it would tie up the complete Abbott/Slack/Clarke/Pepperday relationship.
