Heanor Shops

Having worked in Poynters butchers for about 6 years when I was younger and learnt a lot of my trade there no one was as sad as I to hear of its closure. Sad loss , so many butchers dissapeared. When I was there there were many butchers in the town. Woods on the market place, CO OP on the corner had a butcher,Horsleys on the corner of Munday St and Ray St.Dewhust on the corner of market St. Poynters of course, down the road there was another opposite derby arms Worleys I think, and Larry Raisin down the bottom. Also cresswells had a butcher in for a while who opened his own shop Tovells which also dissapeared. I know its not Heanor but just have to mention the old guy in Loscoe just opposite Denby lane cant remember his name but he had the biggest queues. Always remember going there with my father for our weekly meat when I was about 10 (1970)
