Winifred isn't on the net. You can always contact her via the DFHS.

Many thanks for your suggestion. I was wondering whether your member Winifred Waterall might know more as we had corresonded quite a bit about the Church and my Shorthose ancestors way back in the 1980s (I am a member of the DFHS) but we lost touch as you do.

Hello Shortsocks,
Ilkeston Local History society may be able to help you with this query, as Cotmanhay is in their area-it has a very good site and there is a section giving photos of many of the churches. There is also a portrait gallery, where there is a picture of a member of the Shorthose family. The site doesn't have a chat area like this one, but does have a "contact us" facility, where most probably they will be able to answer your query on the church windows.
I'm sure you will enjoy the site-but don't desert us!

Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed any light as to what happened to 2 of the long stained glass windows after the church was demolished? I am not referring to the two windows which went to the Stained Glass Museum at Ely but there were two other similar windows which were dedicated to my ancestors (Robert Shorthose born 17.12.1824 died 3.3.1872 and his brother John Henry Shorthose born 4.4.1836 died 18.1.1873) by their father John Shorthose who outlived them and died in 1877. These were beautiful long windows with a 2 line dedication clearly written at the base of each window. Luckily I took photos of them when I visited in 1977 so I have some sort of record. But I have always wished that I had made enquiries earlier to find out their fate.
Can anyone help please, via this wonderful webiste, as I would like to know that they had gone to a good home somewhere else. Christina
