Interesting the occupier being a Wardle in 1888 - see the reference to Wardles in the Red Hill Farm thread in the Langley subject area - I have no doubt that these two will in some way have been connected.

It's hard to know what I want to know about anything, until I know it! Anything and everything is a good, if not very useful, answer!

What do the present occupants know about the history of the pub?
Do they have access to any old photographs or documents relating to the building?
Is there anything of specific interest in the building, and, if so, would they be prepared to let anyone come and see it? (for example, what are the cellars like?)
Would they be happy for someone (me) to come and take photographs in the building (and not just the public parts)?
Do we know why it is a listed building?
