Like the 24 carat ***** I am I did make a note of the source. When the Knights Templar were disbanded by force, the knights in England retired/retreated in to abbeys. There were several at Dale Abbey, one received a pension from the government of the time. This pension for some reason was back dated. This information is lurking somewhere on the net.

There is a feature on local abbeys at this link, http://www.ilkcam.com/specials/Monks%20Way/01%20Introduction.html.

regards Phil
