ice, Can't quite remember when, must have been the early 50s. But in those days it was only about half the size as later on they knocked into next door which used to be Taylor's corn stores.

i think the cigarette shop that you mention used to be further up and just across from the empire as i know it,like on the corner bit which has been a number of shops now..including the last one,a flower shop.but i cannot remember bagnalls selling fruit at the cresswell site..when did they close frano.

There were 2 Lomax shops in red lion square, not related as far as I know. One was cigs and sweets etc. the other was grocery in the same premises as Bagnalls then Cresswells. Up until I left Heanor around 1960 it had always been grocery so I don't know what happened after that. Bagnalls also ran a grocers shop in Wirksworth.
I'm afraid I don't know about the motor bike shop except for Humphrey's just above the Empire.

now they are near the end of the demolition of cresswells on derbys rd and more than likely another set of houses or flats will adorn the space.having looked at various pictures on picturepast..i can't seem to find one that tells me what used to be there before cresswells...does anyone else have any history of it.
