Naming of Churches
replied on: 2/17/2007 1:12:54 PM Does anyone know the origin of the names of the Chapels on Cromford Road at Langley Mill? The one on the corner of Argyle Street was always known as the "Prims" but the Central Methodist Church on the corner of Gladstone Street started life in 1886 as the Langley Mill Primitive Methodist Church. I was led to believe that the "Prims" split and moved to Argyle Street, but when and why was the name changed on the Gladstone Street Chapel? The Wesleyan Church (1876) on Station Road/Pottery Lane belonged to the United Methodist Free Churches. PAULR |
