Heanor Observer
26th June 1930
Memorial to Canon Corfield
Window unveiled in Heanor Church
The memory of the late Canon Corfield who died in 1926 is still very fragrant in Heanor and district and it is a matter for satisfaction that the church at which he laboured as vicar for a quarter of a century now possesses an adequate memorial of one whose name will ever be associated with Heanor Church life.
The memorial takes the form of a beautiful stained glass window, above what is affectionately known as the children’s corner. It represents in three choicely coloured and artistic panels “One Fold and On Sheperd.” And is a very fine addition to the lovely stained glass windows for which the church is noted.
The inscription at the base of the window is as follows:
“In ever loving memory of Claude E. L. Corfield M.A. Hon Canon of Southwell, and afterwards Prebendary of Wells who was a faithful and zealous vicar from 1886 to 1911 and a devoted friend of little children erected by parishioners and friends Messrs W. Morris & Co were the artist.
