replied on: 3/9/2008 9:46:16 PM I checked the 1901 census and there is an Horatish Barks with a wife Emma who were caretakers of the Isolation Hospital at Calladine House. Both around 60 years old. Do you think this could be him? Sue |

replied on: 3/22/2007 8:15:01 PM I have remembered a story that my grandad told me about Tay Barks .He lived in "the huts area somewhere at the end of Burnthouse Road .When piped water was first installed .Tay still wanted to use the well that they had always used .Being shrewd he took a sample of the well water to Dr Turton to have it analysed to see if it was fit to drink ,of course Dr Turton condemned it as unfit for purpose and a health hazard .The thing was ,Tay had actually taken the sample from the standpipe not the well ! db |
