Hi Peter

I live in Hamilton which is about 90-100 mins South of Auckland in the North Island.
My mother was Nellie's daughter Enid (the eldest), her other sister Joyce was married to Stan Smith and they lived in Heanor. They had a son, my cousin, named Peter.
I was born in 1953 and we used to come over to Aldercar most Sundays from Nottingham for 'high tea'. Grandma Nellie had cooked in the kitchens of Annesley House in Eastwood I think before she married my grandfather who was from Cumbria and was involved with the Estate horses I think.

Hi

I was checking out Aldercar Tollgate on the Web as it was my grandparents cottage when I was a child and they ran the Tollgate when my mother was young - so they must have been there at least 50 years from about 1920 -1970 and I came upon a reference to Nellie Smith's Tollgate from Peter Chamberlain.

This caused great excitement here in New Zealand as Nellie was my grandmother!

I would be really grateful if anyone has any stories/history about the Tollgate and the Aldercar area.
