replied on: 4/19/2007 7:58:18 AM I remember those cottages, Peter. Didn't the (top) end one have a long garden which ran parallell to the road? I seem to remember they grew lots of flowers -and I think sold them too. Might have been the Batemans who lived there. Also was one of them inhabited by the man who used to open/close the railway crossing gate. Also was it Minkleys who owned Regal? Were they the same family as Minkley, the builders??? |

replied on: 4/18/2007 4:45:18 PM The development is called the Limes by Wheeldon Homes. There is a Minkley drive which I believe was the name of the former site owners, a Limes Close, Cherry Tree Way (a dead Cherry tree was where the site entrance now is according to the plans) and I think there is one other. It's a very odd shaped estate, not square and in rows like most but based around a single bendy road with a couple of off shoots. Here's a pic of the site plan http://www.wheeldongroup.co.uk/images/limes_sitemap.jpg Thanks to all who are replying, I lived a few miles away previously so don't know all that much about the area but it's interesting reading through all the posts on here. |

replied on: 4/18/2007 1:45:26 PM Are we looking in the area where Regent conservatory, shed, greenhouse place was? I believe it caught fire some years ago. I remember that area before there was anything on it -the allotments were further down and there was the entrance to the Coal Wharf. There used to be a tip there (1950's) used by Lovatts (Langley) Pottery (and others) to dump their rejects -I still have a dish "picked" from there in the 1950's! if this is the correct area I will delve into the memory bank for other information Out of interest what are the new roads/site to be called? |

replied on: 4/17/2007 9:00:35 PM Hi all, I have just bought a house on the new development off Cromford Road. I vaguely remember driving past over the years and there being somesort of factory but can't really remember that much, but going through all the paperwork there is info on all sorts of previous activity at the site. Does anyone have any info and or pictures from the past upto the present to try and refresh my memory. Thanks, great forum BTW I keep going off exploring from the bits of info I find on here! |
