Loscoe Colliery / Ormonde
replied on: 7/26/2007 12:45:36 PM I found this in the Heanor Observer: June 1st 1911 Heanor Observer Miner’s foot blown off Accident at the Ormonde Colliery A serious accident befell Isaiah Walker 35 of Ray St Heanor a deputy at the Ormonde Colliery Loscoe on Thursday afternoon. He was engaged in firing a shot in the pit, and noticing something smouldering on the ground he put his foot on it. Instantly there was a loud report and the poor fellow’s left foot was blown clean off. With great pluck he bound the terrible injury up himself until assistance arrived. He was then brought to the surface, and conveyed to the Nottingham General Hospital. It is expected that an artificial limb will be provided for him, on inquiry at the hospital yesterday we learned that he is making remarkably good progress, and it is expected he will be able to return home very shortly.
