replied on: 12/9/2007 5:46:33 AM Ice, the memory jogged a bitlast night Mr Marshall left and that was when Eric Wain arrived he took over Mr Marshall's room. I think Tom Kew took over G Buxtons room for a while. The caretaker's at this time lived in the house that was at the side of the bigger playground, were the transportable was. |

replied on: 12/8/2007 6:20:18 AM I am having to scratch the old grey matter now Ice. Has you enter through the cloak room facing you was the kitchen, turn right down the corridor the first room was Mr Warrington, later Mr Marshal, the room at the end was Miss Henson.Back the other way the first room was Geoff Buxton, the end room was divided and shared by Sammy Naylor and Mr Mitchel. This was before the transportable arrived, then Geoff Buxton and Sammy Naylor moved into it,Eric Wain arrived and took over Geoff Buxton's old room.Other teachers came and went can't remember them all,Tom Kew used to take over a class now and then. Bob, Miss Henson must have been mellowing using a slipper she used to throw the black board duster at us. This was how I remember it being in 1953 good old days. |

replied on: 11/27/2007 3:09:32 PM now i can't remember miss henson at all bill...maybe i was a bit late in starting at this school..i think it was 1959 or 1960 when i went there..but i do remember the sloping footy pitch...now if i remember rightly there was a classroom come library, come dinner hall at the bottom of the brick building.then i think it was mr tom kews classroom, across was the kitchen and mrs burrows(kitchen was so tiny) across from there was the cloakroom and wash basins and entrance then another classroom opposite another entrance adjacent to the stoke room for the boilers and another classroom in the corner..maybe you can put teachers to classrooms bill. |

replied on: 11/26/2007 11:28:05 PM Miss Henson certainly wielded a large plimsoll too! Used to throw it at children who were talking! I've got my old school reports in front of me now - It was "Heanor Marlpool Boys' County School". Standard 2 report 1953 signed by Miss Henson Standard 3 and 4 signed by Geoff Buxton Last report signed by Tom Kew himself. I really enjoyed life at this school (apart from when the cane was administered!) and played in the footy team. I have a picture of the team somewhere - we used to play in red and white stripes and white shorts. The pitch behind Langley Infants was on an incredible slope. I was the left winger, and when playing towards the swimming baths I swear the corner flag was higher than the crossbar of the goal! I remember David Holmes, Timothy Hartshorn, Charles Bartram (goallie in the pic), Paul Harvey, Aubrey Marron, Patrick Tudor, David Cockayne, David Musson .. |

replied on: 8/15/2007 6:54:56 PM Yes Mrs James was the music teacher, the giveaway being the upright piano in the classroom. If my memory is correct, the layout was enter, through cloakroom, turn left Sammy Naylor's class room then the hall. Turn right, small kitchen area on left, Tom Kew's classroom then Mrs James at bottom. Across the playgound, a two classroom wooden structure with Eric Wain to the left and Bert Wade to the right. Old fashioned outside toilets that had that had that powerful smell of Izal disinfectant. Eric Wain got the nickname of Swoop through the use of a size 12 plimsol. This was the means of attracting your attention when you allowed your mind to wander. The impact of the plimsol got your mind and body back to the lesson. Once it was lifted up you watched it swoop on to the target with great accuracy. regards Phil |

replied on: 8/13/2007 7:51:09 PM Mrs James (Jesse, it had to be), Mr Wade (Bert), Mr Wain (Eric or Swoop) used to be teachers. Catering staff, Mrs Burrows (not sure if spelt correctly) and Mrs A N Other. These are remembered from the late 50s with my two brain cells in fine fettle. I could just wuff a plate of mash, cheese pie and beans down and then start the line for seconds. Happy Days regards Phil |
