Re house colours - a friend who started HGS in 1961 states that Ray was red, Flamstead was blue and Howitt was white at that time. She says that berets must have been phased out in the early 60's as she had one and wore it on the first day only. They were supposed to be worn and most of the new pupils wore one on the first day at school,got laughed at, and never wore one again.
