The tandem fits right in. Nellie mentioned that her daughter and son-in-law rode a tandem bike. April 14, 1946 "...Dorothy Edna and here husband have just set off for (Langley Mill) their home on their tandem cycle; Little Frankie has also just left us for home and bed, he celebrated his 9th birthday recently. Many thanks for stamps you sent him." I don't know who Frankie is.

Also "We have had Jack Brown from Breach Cottage for tea, my youngest sister's son. He is 18 and works down the mine as an electrician."
