I'm a late arriver at the Clara Holbrook autograph book discussion. She was the daughter of Harriet Holmes and John Holbrook. The John Holmes in the autograph book was probably her grandfather and my great grandfather; Mary Holmes would have been his second wife, widow of Joseph Pollard, whom he married in 1886. I remember being taken to meet Ella Lovatt, Clara's younger sister, in the fifties: she was elderly, of course, but very imposing.
