Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your message re my Mother's Birthday - I do not have the date I am afraid.
She was names Martha Straw, born the youngest of a large family - lived in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, Derbyshire - Married to George Leslie Willgoose.
Our Grandfather, who I/we are trying to research was named Sam Straw and we believe was killed in a mining accident in the Shipley Coal Mine in the early 1900's
I am presently waiting for my brother/sisters to reply to my request for their information imput.
Not all that much to go on I admit.
I/we do appreciate your help in this matter
Thanks - Terry Willgoose in Canada

this was the only Samuel Shaw I could find I think we are still looking don't you! Langley Mill

The late Mr. S. Shaw
The death took place at Milnhay on Sunday evening of Mr Samuel Shaw at the ripe old age of 90 years. Born at Belper in August 1810 Mr Shaw had thus lived under four sovereigns. In his younger days he was engaged as a potter, but retired many years ago, on leaving Belper he resided at Marehay for about twenty years and ten years ago he removed to Langley Mill, He took no part in public life beyond being a Sunday school teacher while at Belper. He leaves a son and two daughters. The funeral took place at Ripley today.
