From the Access to Archives website, an entry from the Edge family of Strelley collection.

Cat ref 157 DD/E/14/53 original date 14 Oct 1779

The will of Cristopher Colclough contains a reference to a farm at Heanor purchased from Henry Godkin.

To view the entry use the the term godkin in the A2A front page search facility. It displays about five entries for Godkin.

In Yesterdays Journey by Mike Spencer there is a mention of a 1641 will by Henry Godkin of Heanor. (no other details).

Information on the Godkin family from a bible here: http://www.boydhouse.com/alice/Aston/godkinancestors.html
(includes info from the 1641 will)

OK, we all know that there was a farm called Godkin Farm, which gave rise to the council estate at Aldercar. (I was born in a house just off Godkin Drive, named after the farm.)

Those who have read the Society's books over the years will have seen that the farm was occupied by the Brough family.

BUT.... what about the Godkins? There must have been a family of this name to give rise to the name of the farm. Can anyone dig anything out?
