I have joined the Clara Holbrook autograph topic rather late. She was the daughter of my grandmother's sister, Harriet. the John Holmes in the book would have been her maternal grandfather, and the Mary Holmes his second wife.
I remember meeting Ella Holbrook (later Lovat) some time in the 50s - a rather grande dame,if I recall.
