if i am remembering correctly..in some of the public houses and clubs i recall some of the weird and wonderful pumps being like an oval shape which would whoosh round when turning the beer tap on and another was a long glass tube affair that would draw from side to side..nice idea but i think they we're withdrawn because the beer was getting warm in the containers..this was definitely the 60s..mostly home ales and kimberly.

I think JFK was shot in 1963, Wesley.

I was having a pint at Loscoe Welfare (which ruled me out as a suspect) when the news came through.

I know this doesn't belon here, but Iceboy's reference to the "off license window" at the horse and Jockey at Langley Mill brought back a memory.

In the early 60's I had a "stick round", where I sold firewood door to door around Bailey Brook Estate. ["Eye up,git 10 pee for't stick lad, ays at t'door"].

After finishing my round with my mate Paul, we usually stopped of at the off license for a 2d panket of salted nuts each. I remember the time the bar man told us that Kennedy had just been shot, it was 22nd November,1962.

My favourite night out in the early/mid 1970s was The Regal at Ripley. Fifty pence would buy my drinks for the night (cider as it lasted longer, was cheap and you got tipsy quick) and my bus fair from and back to Heanor - with change! Before that it was the Rollerina at Ripley - absolutely loved that place on a Sunday night - but I was more fifteen than eighteen . Very naughty but I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

That's the one, sadly now a housing estate The Premier had a Sunday licence and was just about the only local source of entertainment on the Sabbath in the 1960's. There was a tobacconist-cum-sweet shop on Market Street where we bought our fags. It was run by an ancient old lady with a beard, who we called 'Devil Woman' after the Marty Robbins song which was popular at the time. We used to get a pass-out (hands stamped) and drift over to the White Lion for an illegal pint or two before catching the five past eleven C6 to Heanor.

Oh happy days.

Anyone remember Ray Dane and the Diamonds? They were a regular group at the Premier, the lead singer was Trevor Gill from Eastwood.

Cherry B and Babycham still going, Ice.

Cherry B got you legless in no time - there was also "Pony"

Germanrockstar - our paths may have crossed - the Dungeon - remember when the licencing laws insisteed to open late a meal had to be provided - so you were given a tray of limp lettuce on arrival. The Beachcomber The Boat -all bring back memories - the Regal I used to go to while still in school.(tut tut)

I used to buy a packet of Sobrane cocktail cigarettes on payday - gold filter and different coloured cigarettes - I used to just smoke the ones which matched my outfit -and nail polish!!!! Oh boy -was I cool?????

In the 60's I can recall nights out at the Regal in Ripley dancing round our handbags. This was weeknights. Saturday and Sunday nights were spent going on the bus to Nottingham to the clubs there, the Dungeon, The Beachcomber, The Brit, The Boat and The Union club (at Trent Bridge) and occasionally The Dancing Slipper (West Bridgford) and the Palais. Vodka and Lime was my drink of choice (and still is). Also Babycham and Cherry B and Port and Lemon occasionally. It was very sophisticated to get a cherry in the drink with a little paper umbrella - we thought that was very cool.
A night out at the pictures was either the Empire or the Rex at Eastwood.

On the subject of "ladies' drinks," I remember going with my brother and his girlfriend to the Sportsman in Codnor, some time in the mid/late 1970's. The girlfriend was refused a pint as they wouldn't serve them to ladies! I can't see that happening now.
