Lord John Sangers Circus
replied on: 4/10/2008 12:52:05 PM

1910 21st April H/ O, the trap accident, an accident which might have had more serious results occurred in Mansfield Rd Heanor, on Saturday morning while Lord John Sanger’s Circus was proceeding towards Langley Mill it overtook a pony and trap driven by Mr Jesse Butt Newsagent. The animal took fright at the elephants, and dashed off down the Hill. Mr Butt succeeded in jumping out and getting hold of the reins, but unfortunately fell and sustained severe injuries to his head and face through bumping against the wheel. Two lads who were in the trap were in a precarious position for a time, but ultimately the pony was brought to a standstill without any more damage being done.
