replied on: 4/10/2008 3:43:48 PM Vodka and lime -that brings back memories. The "in" drink! I guessed it would be late sixties for a youngster visiting the Durham Ox In the 50's (kept by a member of my family for years )youngsters would not go into that pub-it was an older persons pub - most exciting thing to happen was to get double 6 at dominoes. In the 60s it was taken over by a younger landlord -and they even started to serve chicken and chips in a basket -how trendy can you get??? My early teens were spent in Heanor Milk bar, Elliots, Town Hall dances , Heanor Welfare -and occasionally the Rays Arms (cos they never asked your age there!) Cricks Club, Premier Ilkeston, -that was before the wages went up and Nottingham nightlife beckoned. Nightclubs opening from 2pm sat through til 2 pm Sunday! I moan nowadays cos I can't sleep - it was a bonus to be able to stay awake in those days!!!! |
