replied on: 4/11/2008 10:22:02 PM That's the one, sadly now a housing estate The Premier had a Sunday licence and was just about the only local source of entertainment on the Sabbath in the 1960's. There was a tobacconist-cum-sweet shop on Market Street where we bought our fags. It was run by an ancient old lady with a beard, who we called 'Devil Woman' after the Marty Robbins song which was popular at the time. We used to get a pass-out (hands stamped) and drift over to the White Lion for an illegal pint or two before catching the five past eleven C6 to Heanor. Oh happy days. Anyone remember Ray Dane and the Diamonds? They were a regular group at the Premier, the lead singer was Trevor Gill from Eastwood. |
