Was Rays Avenue ever connected to Taghill

At the end of Rays Ave there used to be a fence with a locked gate in the middle. On the other side was the Coronation Club car park and bowling alley. As a kid I used to nip over the fence as a short cut to our chip shop next door to the club.
I have tried to check on old maps to see if it used to be a through road, but can't tell for definite.
Can anyone tell me please.
