Radford / Pounder / Wheatley
replied on: 5/4/2008 3:21:19 PM After several attempts at registering for Chatarea, my correspondent has give up and has sent her replies/queries to me. So, here goes... "BENNERLEY. Thank you for your help. To broaden out the Pounder Family; John Pounder b 1823/4 married Hannah b 1825/6 Would you know Hannah's Surname? They appeared to have the following children; John Henry b1857, Sarah Ann b 1859 (my grt grandmother), Samuel b 1863, Hannah E b 1865, Albert b 1868. Armed with this information do you still think the family lived at Park Lane Farm, Mapperley? And is this the farm that looked after all the pit ponies? Thanks again. SUZARD. Thank you for your respnse. The info on my grandfather's army papers seems to tie up , even to the hereditary varicose veins! You ask for more on the Wheatley family: My mother's mother was Sarah Wheatley b1884 - she married John Pounder Radford. Her brother's and sister's were Everard, William, Ethel, Robert, Mabel, Fanny, Percy, and Olive. Would you have info on William and Robert? (The others i have a bit of info). Their parents were Joseph Wheatley and Julia Boam from Cossall. Julias father may have been the local blacksmith (Cornelious Boam) - and Joseph's trade was a "Runner On ". What is this? Something to do with the coalmining industry? Did he lead the pit horses underground? Phoned Derby Archives and they were useless. Going back to the Wheatley Family 1880 onwards - did they all live at Elm Farm; was it a tenant farm; what happened to it? Does the name Zalasinski mean anything in the Cossal area? My mother said we were connected - perhaps family friends? Also, John Pounder Radford worked with Vic Hallam in his early carpentry days so I will be reading your article on Vic. I've just written a 150 page book on my Father but as you can see I have found very little on my Mother's side. Await with expectation." |
