bakers lane?
replied on: 5/19/2008 2:57:27 PM

Dear all

I can confirm that the building on bakers lane did used to be a bakery and was also the site of a windmill. (hence Mill lane). My wife lived there for many years during the 70s and 80s when it was a grocers then later Derbyshire Electronic Services (D.E.S.)Television shop. There used to be a trapdoor in the upstairs room to lower bags of flour down into the carts below.
I found alot of old codds bottles buried in the garden when I was digging one day,
They had Heanor names on them. I still have them in my collection.
There was also another bakery on the corner of mill lane and wright street. This was in use during the 40s & 50s. I think a Mrs Flinders lived there. Later purchased by Mr Tissington who sold it as building land for the current bungalows.
Regards Stuart
