Chores
posted on: 1/16/2004 8:36:47 PM

There is a revision of how chores are distributed. If you are a personal slave they are assigned by your Owner. If you are a camp slave then unless you are working on an assigned task or assignment chores need to be done each day you are able to make it in to chat. For the times when you have no chores or assignments to post, please post your serves. This is to show you are working and also to help as a learning tool for yourself and others. At this point in time, we have 3 slaves in camp:

nelia owned by Drake
crys owned by Kassar Camp
topaz owned by Me

there is "no first girl", it is up for grabs. The honor will be bestowed on the girl who shows the proper devotion, knowledge and hard work for it. In other words girls you all have a chance for it.

--------Chores Overview-----------

These chores are learning tools, to hone your skills for creating vivid mental images with your words and also to familarize you with the workings of camp. Even if no one posts a comment on your chores that will be no excuse to slack off. They are being read, noticed and make no mistake if there was a problem with them it will be made known to you. Do your best, try new things, do not be afraid to make a mistake, read the posts of others for ideas, and lastly if you can make it in to chat for ten minutes you can do a short simple chore. This does not mean if you slip in to chat to notify camp or your owner that you will be gone; that you have to do chores also. We are aware most of you work and have families. It is not our intention to load you up with so much work you do not have time to do anything in vp or enjoy your online time. We do how ever demand you do to your best. I WILL BE ADDING TO THIS OFTEN SO CHECK BACK HERE FREQUENTLY.

-----------Important Note-------------

Here is where you will find out what the area we are currently in, is like. You will be expected to incorporate that in to your chores and serves.

Right now we area by a cool refreshing stream with crisp clean water, so we will be stocking up as much as possible on water, washing everything thoroughly and also be using it to keep things cool.

We do not keep kettles of expensive blackwine at ready over fire pits in camp. What little blackwine we have managed to collect is being hoarded. It is an expensive drink and not found easily outside of Thentis. If your owner has some and wishes to share it with a guest or member of camp so be it. We do not however keep it on hand just to please strangers.

We do not plant, grow or tend crops. We get what we need by sword or trade. There will be times when we get supplies of different items. Rune will list the items we have received from raids and any camp free can post on items for camp from trades. This is for two reasons, one to better represent the Kassar accurately and also to add variety in to chores.

The Wagon Peoples grow no food, nor do they have manufacturing as we know it. They are herders and it is said, killers. They eat nothing that has touched the dirt. They live on the meat and milk of the bosk. They are among the proudest of the
peoples of Gor
--Nomads of Gor, pages 4 and 5--

Tending the animals:

BOSK:

each free has selection of their own bosk that need watered,(Bosk for milk and to pull our personal wagons are always kept close to our own wagons.) We usually let the rest graze freely in private herds downstream from the camp(the higher the ranking in camp, the better the section of land their animals get to graze on. In other words the higher ranks have the best grazing in the area we are currently in.) since we do not remain in one area long enough for them to strip it. Milk bosk will need to be milked every day or two depending on how well they produce milk or they will become overly full and uncomfortable. When milking a bosk, kneel beside it, place a bucket under the udders, make sure your hands are warm or you may get a kick, grasp the udders one per hand near the top close to her belly, squeeze gently working to very tight then slowly slide your hand down forcing the milk in to the bucket. Strays from the private herds will happen on occasion and will need to be guided back to their appropriate herd. New calves will need to be checked on to ensure they are growing well and suckling enough milk. Sick animals will need to be sectioned off to ensure they do not infect the rest of the herd. The healers must be informed of any sick animals so they can examine them and decide what the best course of treatment is for them.

Sleen:
We have prairie sleen. These are a tawny color and slightly smaller than forest sleen but equally deadly and loyal. These sleen will need to have fresh water in their troughs but they will be fed either when they hunt at night or by their Owner's own hand.

If I were found on the plains near the camps or the bosk herds I knew I would be scented out and slain by the domesticated, nocturnal herd sleen, used as shepherds and sentinels by the Wagon Peoples, released from their cages with the falling of darkness. These animals, trained prairie sleen, move rapidly and silently, attacking upon no other provocation than trespass on what they have decided is their territory. They respond only to the voice of their master, and when he is killed or dies, his animals are slain and eaten.
---Nomads of Gor, page 9--

Vullo:
These birds will need to be fed and watered. They are fed seeds tossed about on the ground. They are kept in cages at night and during the day are allowed to wander camp freely. This can make for some interesting visits from them. Their eggs will need to be hunted out and gathered. The eggs are made in to breakfast and other foods cooked over the fires. We do not have anything cold enough to store them properly. So there is no omelette at supper time.

Verr:
They will need moved to a new section and given fresh water. Verr are kept in the worst grazing areas and moved daily to another bad section, since they will eat almost anything and also will quickly strip an area. They tend to be ill tempered and will head butt anyone or thing at will. Be careful when tending them.

Kailla:
These animals are carnivorous and very quick. Extreme care must be taken with them. Fresh water must given to them and also verr will be staked out in their midst. When Kailla are pregnant a bound verr is kept nearby at all times in case the mother gives birth the newborn has food to feed on and that verr as well as the pregnant kailla will need fed and watered. A kailla will not eat if its not hungry but that does not mean it will not bite or attack.

Cleaning
We do not have a mess wagon, kitchen wagon, supply wagon, servery wagon or cold wagon for camp. Each individual free has their own stock, supplies and kitchen boxes attached to their wagons. We have fire pits in middle of camp where we cook our foods. Dishes are close to the wagon they belong to if used by members of camp or if by guests they may be scattered around the fires. They will need to be gathered up, washed, air dried and returned to their proper owners. Most dishes if unmarked are near their owner's wagons.

When using unmarked dishes be sure to recall who they belong to so you may return them to the right person. Kettles, pans, skillets, metal rods used as spits and other items will also need to be cleaned on a daily basis. These items will likely be hard to clean and will need alot of scrubbing. If a pan or kettle or skillet is very hard to clean put clean soapy water in it and let it boil in the early morning before others awake, then dump, cool and wash the item. Repeat as often as needed to get the item clean.

Most of our dishes are metal or wood. These travel better, do not break and are things we make ourselves. Ceramic, glass and other things we may have acquired from strangers are here also. We do not have a glass blower, kiln for pottery, or glazes.

If item made of glass or ceramic breaks or chips it is useless and can not be used again. Be very carefull handling the fragile items. If in doubt of what supplies a free has on hand and is willing to allow used, ask. I have only metal dishes, pans, wooden bowls, wooden plates, metal plates, horns, iron tankards, a few worn ceramic cups, one big blue mug, wooden footed bowls, metal and wood footed bowls, spoons, knives and forks of metal, all glass bowls and ceramic bowls of mine are reserved for use with dyes, the dye does not bleed in to them like they do wood.

When gathering dishes, do not enter any wagon but your owner's without express permision prior in search of dirty dishes, clothes or to do cleaning. Each free has their own supplies they have acquired, stored in their own wagons. Refilling your owner or another's kitchen box comes from that free's own stocks. If someone runs out of something they will either do without or barter for some from another free. You can be sure if I run out of flour Vel would be most happy to trade me some but doubtful she'd just bestow it as a gift. Nor would my pride allow me to ask for it free.

Each free has laundry that needs to be done, collect them up, cleaning as required per items:

rugs, blankets, furrs require special cleaning and are not immersed in water frequently. Rugs will be strewn over a rope clothesline or makeshift lean too horse and be beaten with either a stick, old worn out broom or rug beater(types and styles vary, most were either wood or metal rods that looked like an hand egg beater or were metal or wood rods with strands of chain or rope threaded thru them. If you have any questions feel free to ask) Rugs do not get washed totally unless they are small. Little spots will need to be scrubbed out on occasion but that is all. Blankets will be shook out and hung out in the sun to air. These will be washed every new season or if new then washed before use. Furs will be shook out, and brushed with a brush to unmatt the hair and remove specs of dirt, then laid out in the sun to air out.

Clothing will be washed at the stream on rocks with our own home made lye soap. Then dried on racks, rocks or make shift clothslines.

Food preparation:

Each day there will be foods and drinks that need to be prepared for the days meals. Roasts, soups, Kalda, curds, jerky are just to name a few of the foods you can work on. Also some areas allow some gathering of berries, herbs, and fishing. I will go over meals and drinks in the serves section.

As your training progresses and skills improve your chores will become more involved and more difficult. This is to continue your training and help you further push your limits and abilities to higher levels. Also at any time a specific chore may be assigned at whim by free either to teach, train, punish or serve the free's will. If the time limits imposed are not realistic to the demands, work, your family and home life require do not be afraid to say so. Each person is different. One girl may be on more often and have more time to devote to training and serving. Another may have less. This is not to punish but to adapt chores, training and assignments to fit each slave's personal abilities and needs.
