STORIES OF ROY PALADIN
posted on: 2/11/2004 12:12:00 AM

THE BEGINNING

Born in a poor town, Roy Hedgehog never knew his family. He was dropped off at an orphanage as a baby, and was forced to take care of himself. At 12 years of age, he was running with the wrong crowd. He was big for his age, and even mugged people in the streets for some quick cash. He discovered that he could fight well, and decided that if he boxed, he would get more money than mugging some random person for little cash.

Roy was a confident fellow, sometimes a little shy around girls. He was considered handsome, and was vain of his hair and eyes. He was quick to make a joke, except if you were up against him in a tussle.

At age 13, he started his boxing career in 1991. He strung up a few victories here and there, but wasn't satisfied with his earnings. So he took it upon himself to join a dark army, which paid handsomely. He was like a soldier, who fought and wounded quite a few innocents, but never killed.

One day, he and his comrades were sent to destroy a city via a giant mechanical robot. They controlled it from the inside. As the machine marched towards it's appointed destination, a legendary Hypernuke Comet nailed into them, blasting the machine into pieces. They should have died, but they all survived, and soon afterwards learned that they had acquired special powers. They could fly, were stronger physically and mentally, quickly learned techniques that only a swordsmaster would know, and had powerful magic-like attacks (including the Hypernuke attack itself). They were later told that the comet had chosen them to become Mystic Paladins. Roy was so grateful and dedicated, that he changed his last name to "Paladin". Their morals also changed, including Roy's. They turned against the evil army that they fought along side with, and fought them well. They also made friends with those who were fighting the army as well. By the way, a Mystic Paladin's Hypernuke attack could level a mountain.

Roy decided that he would try to inspire the innocents who were oppressed by the dark forces, by returning to boxing again, with winning the championship as a symbol that anything is possible. By this time, Roy was 13-0 with 3 KOs. He was offered a title fight by then, since he went against the Tenth Dimensional Army, and one of their minions held a title and figured to beat Roy and make an example of him. Before the opening bell, the WBC Heavyweight Champion, Zoek, (there were 3 belts then) walked cockily over to Roy and asked him if he was ready. "You know it." the challenger replied. The fight started, and they tactifully traded blows for the first minute and a half. Then out of nowhere Roy nailed a perfect right to the champion's temple. He staggered from the center of the ring into a corner and collapsed. He barely made an attempt to rise and was given the ten count. It appeared that hitting power was also a perk of being a Mystic Paladin. Roy Paladin was the new Heavyweight Champion at the tender age of 14.

Roy did grow physically fast, as well as mentally, as that was a side effect of the Hypernuke blast. He was already 6'2" and around 210 lbs. He would keep on boxing that same year, winning all of his fights, and unifying all three belts to become the undefeated, Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. That is a rare thing in boxing indeed. He even beat his fellow Mystic Paladins in the ring, as they joined pugilism as well. Two were a match for Roy, the other two weren't. Actually the two other champions he beat to unify the title were them. When Roy fought for the third title to unify it, he was up against the fellow Mystic Paladin who called himself simply as "the Master". He had a very swelled head after gaining all of his powers. He was tough, but Paladin won in the 8th Round. Roy kept on winning and winning, and his record went to 92-0 with 78 KOs. He decided enough was enough and retired from boxing in late 1992.

You see, the guy he beat for the first title was a Fiend, or demon-like creature, if you will. They work for the dark army as well, and are incredibly strong, and are used as special forces. They all are under the King of Fiends, the Black Dragon, Kusahm, but we'll get to him later.

Roy went on to fight in the war, but discovered that his powers as a Mystic Paladin were slowly fading. His strength was slowly sapping, and figured that he couldn't be a fierce warrior forever. In 1993, he figured to try and regain a title he vacated by challenging then-champion, Zimm, another Fiend. He was a purple cat with a huge, sick smile, and was very intelligent. The champ was a tricky southpaw, and even managed to block one of Roy's lefts, and counter with a left of his own to floor Paladin. Roy wasn't the same fighter he was one year ago. The fight went the distance, but Zimm won on points. It was Roy's first defeat. He went onto fight the war again.

In 1994, a new machinazation was unleashed. Sure enough, it was nicknamed "the Anti-Paladin". It's purpose was to seek out and kill all the Mystic Paladins. It was a giant canine gone mad with Zimm's experiments (he was somewhat of a scientist as well as a fighter), and had many weapons attached to it. He was too strong for the Mystic Paladins, and managed to kill all but Roy, and he managed to escaped with his life, as he is fast on his feet. With help from his friends in the realm of Ancientia, the Mystic Paladins were revived, but remained in hiding.

Later that year, Roy wanted to box again, but knew he was getting weaker. He went up against of all beings, "the Anti-Paladin", for revenge for his friends. He knew he was no match for him in a war, so in the ring he figured he might win, using some strange lodgic. The monster was able to anthropomorphisize himself so he could box effectively in the ring. A little too effectively, as he beat Roy on points. Another loss for Roy both inside and outside the ring. He felt that since his powers were so faded, and figured he "disgraced" himself by losing twice, changed his name back to "Roy Hedgehog".

Roy wanted to box again, even though he knew that he practically lost all of his powers. It was late 1995, and went up against a monster (figuratively and literally) named "General Destroyer" (he was named that because, 1-he was a general, and 2-he was definitely a destroyer). He was a skeleton-like creature, but at 6'5" and 255 lbs. had lots of muscle. Roy got bashed around and was knocked out in 2 rounds. Roy fought him again a week later, this time losing in the first round. Kiss Roy Paladin's boxing career goodnight. He retired at 92-4 78 KOs.

LIKE THE PHOENIX

By this time, all of his powers were gone. So were his comrades' powers as well. They went on to become teachers. Roy didn't. He meditated and reflected at his life. Then one day, in meditation, he heard something calling to him, and had a vision of a mountain. He told a wise elder about this, and described the mountain perfectly. The wise man said it was Mt. Tromia, and told of it's location to Roy. Roy then went on a quest. Of what he did not know, but felt he needed to go. No one is sure exactly what happened when Roy ventured there, but when he returned, he was once again a Mystic Paladin. He changed his name back to Roy Paladin, this time for good. Even his hair color changed in time, to many different colors, but he kept his bangs separate and they were always black. He also told that he would never lose his abilities as a Mystic Paladin, even though his strength might lower and rise accordingly by itself, but in the span of months. He figured it was time for him to return to the ring...

He fought a six-rounder, and won on a landslide. It was his first victory in nearly four years. A few fights later, he beat another Fiend in the first round to regain the WBC title. He was now a two-time champion, but that wasn't enough. He challenged for the WBA title next. The champion was not a Fiend, but a large green Moogle, named Dunatis. Dunatis was extremely vain, and never slept. He had over six hundred victories and over four hundred successful title defenses...all in less than a year. He fought up to dozens of opponents in a day, and never ran out of gas. He wasn't evil, just full of himself. He was challenged by Roy in a semi-unification match. He pounded on Roy early, but Roy outboxed him through most of the fight. Then, in the eighth round, a series of hard shots put the mighty Dunatis down and out for the count of ten. He later admitted that no one hit him as hard as Roy did.

Now the final step to becoming the true champion was closing near. Unfortunately for Roy, the IBF champion was none other than General Destroyer himself. Roy feared him, but tried not to show it. I mean he was trampled twice by him, but not as a Mystic Paladin...but was that enough? Would Roy's fear overcome him?

In the locker room before the fight, Roy was getting ready, and admitted to his trainer that he was scared and wasn't sure if he would win. The boxing media recognized him as a 3-to-1 underdog, despite all of his accomplishments. He also was worried that if he lost, the people wouldn't consider him a great champion years from now. His trainer then told him of an Earth boxer named "Sugar Ray Robinson". He said that he lost 19 times, yet he was considered the greatest boxer ever on Earth. He told that the great boxers are usually measured by not how many times they lose, but of their victories and who they did beat and how they beat them. He then told Roy not to worry, and that seemed to calm Roy down a bit. Roy then charged up to full power...

When the two combatants were in the middle of the ring being given instructions, the General tired staring down at Roy, and Roy didn't stare back. Then a few seconds later, Roy mustered up the courage and glared at Destroyer and talked some trash to him. The bell rang, and Roy cautiously danced away, jabbing when there were openings. General Destroy sometimes lounged at Roy, and usually missed, but Roy did little offensively. Destroyer landed a right to Roy in the third, and dropped him for a 2 count. Roy wasn't hurt, just disappointed. He was told off by his corner to finish him, and in the fifth round, Roy charged in and exploded a combination like Jack Dempsey would. The champion got up dazed, and there was blood streaming down his face. Roy then unleashed a tremdous flurry on General Destroyer, who was now pinned on the ropes, covering up and not punching back. Two more lefts dropped him (Roy was secretly disappointed that he didn't land his right uppercut, which would've been the next big punch), and Destroyer laid face-first on the canvas. He slowly tried to climb the ropes, in a big daze with blood covering his face, but came nowhere close to his feet when the ten count was reached. Roy Paladin unified the title for a second time. If there was one fight that would have defined his career, then that was it.

Roy had a flock of people escorting him back into his locker room, and some people were even doing the "holy shit" chant. He beat the 3-to-1 odds. He looked into a live camera and told everyone, including the oppressed, that anything can happen if you believe in yourself enough. A fan asked for his autograph, and Roy willingly signed it. The fan was so excited that he foolishly blurted out "You're cool!". Roy then asked if he was cooler than a dinosaur. "Um...yeah!" was all he could say in his moment of excitement. That fan's name was Bud Gabson, an anthropomorphic canine. He would even become a boxer because he was inspired by his hero, Roy Paladin. Hell, he even became champion. No one would suspect that six years from that moment, Bud would be fighting Paladin in the ring.

Roy was once again king, and he adored being so. He defended his Undisputed Heavyweight Championship ten times. One opponent was Zimm. Roy remembered him losing to him, and punished him in the rematch. He nailed him with repeated right hands, as the challenger continued to cover up. Roy even cockily waved to him at the end of one the rounds when the bell rang. Paladin was beginning to get a swelled head. It slowly started growing ever since he beat the General. The doctor mercifully stopped to fight, and Zimm had to be carried out on a stretcher. He never fought Roy again. Another opponent was the Anti-Paladin again. He got trampled in 30 seconds, a new record for Paladin. He never fought Roy again. He fought another Fiend by the name of Zeron, and knocked him out in four rounds. He fought him again, and the Fiend did much better in the rematch. He knocked Roy down twice and went the distance (surviving a knock-down himself). Many people thought that Zeron won (including Zeron himself), but the controversial decision went to Paladin, and some fans booed.

By this time, Roy felt that he should turn his attention to fighting evil outside the ring. At age 18, he gave up his belts to travel into the future to fight demons in another realm. He made some friends, and even met himself in that time. He fought many battles, but missed his home, and felt that he never really belonged in that time to begin with. He was, however, glad to save the lives that he did save. He fought an epic sparring match sword-wise with Zoltor, a king who fought with a blade. After about seven months in that era, he returned to his time (seven months ahead, so he could keep his birthday in place).

NEW BLOOD

Roy returned to ring in 1997 to "get his titles back". He fought a few warm-ups, even good ole General Destroyer. Roy, at full power, totally dominated him with combinations and ruthlessness. He knocked him out in three rounds. Now he was ready to face the undefeated, Undisputed Champion, Floyd Phoenix. Floyd was an anthro cat, brown-furred, with darker brown hair. He stood 5'11" and 220 lbs., and had an agressive, come-forward, slugging style of fighting. He also won every 38 of his fights...by knockout. But, he was humble and good-natured at heart. A bit naive, but a good kid.

This was billed as the biggest boxing fight of all-time. Two great champions, clashing to see who the "real champion" is. Roy taunted Floyd in the press, and boasted. Floyd said little back, and couldn't wait to get in the ring. Well, neither could Roy.

The fight lived up to its expectations and then some. Paladin hurt Floyd in the opening round, but Floyd put on the pressure in the following rounds. They traded blows back and forth, along with rounds. Roy hammered Phoenix with overhand rights, hurt him, and put him down near the end of the fifth round. Floyd got up, pointed his glove at Roy, and laughed. Roy only glared back at Floyd, and then the bell rung.

It was pretty even, until the eleventh. Floyd hurt Roy, managed to pull off another combo, and right when Paladin aimed for a right hand shot, Floyd nailed him with his own. Paladin staggered back into the ropes, covering up as the champion pounded away at him. Luckily, the bell saved him. Somehow, Roy managed to come back and win the following rounds. Floyd then turned up the notch even higher and won the final two rounds. The score cards were read, and Floyd Phoenix retained his title via a 15-round split decision. The fight took so much out of both of them. Both combatants were praised for their courage. The defeat humbled Roy a bit, not too much, but to the point of not being over-cocky again.

1998. Floyd retired his belts in late 1997, but decided to come back. He did manage to win one of his titles back. He then fought an underdog known as Xavier Avenger, but Floyd was ill-prepared. He lost in the ninth round. He then challenged Roy again in a ten-rounder, and Roy won on points this time. You see in this year, Roy has won dozens of fights, making more money and trying to get another title shot. He seemed to have lost some of his tremendous punching power, but found himself improving in his technical skills as a boxer. He did get that title shot in Avenger. Paladin was too quick for him, and TKO'ed him in the seventh. He was once again the WBC champion. Floyd also avenged his defeat by KOing Xavier twice in rematches. Roy then challenged for the WBA title in Kidd Nights. Kidd was a slick southpaw. Paladin won a somewhat boring fight on points in 1999 to have two-thirds of the title. His quest was almost complete. The only person who was stopping him was Nails Nash Nexus.

Nails was a complete fighter. He could out-box, and out-slug, or even out-punch. At 6'1" and 241 lbs., he was another monster (again, figuratively and literally, as he was a Fiend gargoyle--not to mention, a son of Kusahm himself). He was also undefeated. He and Roy Paladin fought in early 2000 for the unification match. Paladin tried to out-slug his match, but he fought the wrong fight. Roy was battered around and floored in the eleventh, and survived the distance. He lost a unanimous decision.

At this time, Roy decided to visit his now-buddy, Floyd Phoenix, who was in the hospital due to a motorcycle crash. "I saw the fight, Roy. You fought him wrong." Floyd said. "I know" admitted Roy. "Here, let me lend you some of my power. With it you can defeat Nexus." the bandaged cat stated. Roy then joked that Floyd didn't look like he have enough power to spare. After they laughed, Floyd insisted that he only do this if he gets a rematch with Roy, and he immediately agreed. Floyd then pulled out a magical device and they both held it at the same time. Floyd's power was transferred to Paladin, and moments later, the cat passed out. Roy stored this extra power for the rematch with the Undisputed Champion.

Summer of 2000. Nails Nash Nexus beat all of his opponents, including Floyd Phoenix on points the year before. He would hold up his one belt with pride (only one, as he melted all other three belts to make just one, because it would be simpler that way, and oh yeah he bought all three organizations and merged them into a single one). He figured a rematch with Paladin would mean a hefty sum of money for him. So they met again in the Tropical Regions of Mobius. The fight was different this time, as Paladin re-harnessed the energy he received from Phoenix before, which only him and Floyd knew about. Roy seemed faster, stronger, and on top of it all, he fought a much smarter fight. He out-jabbed and out-boxed Nexus throughout the whole fight, and nailed Nails repeatedly with right crosses. He dropped the champion in the sixth, and again in the seventh. He was hurt, and Roy pounded on his adversary at will until the referee, Layne Aicman (an anthro cat who was the very best referee in the business), mercifully stopped the fight in favor of Paladin. Once again, Roy was the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion for the third time, (strangely enough, all three times he won the undisputed title was in the summer in four year increments, 1992, 1996, and 2000) and he intended to keep his belt for a very long time.

THE FOURTH REIGN

Having won the Undisputed title for the third time, and owning a piece of the crown for the fourth time, Roy traveled far and wide as an ambassador and almost a symbol to be against the Fiends and the Tenth Dimensional army. He met many leaders and made many friends. He had tons of money, and slept with a lot of women. Everything felt good, not to mention that it also feels mighty good to be the "baddest man on the planet".

Later that year, he fought against Kidd Nights again, and yet again won a boring unanimous decision. He also fought a rematch against Zeron, the Fiend who almost beat him in 1996, and won another boring fight by a majority decision (this is the fourth time he fought Zeron, and his fourth victory--the third fight was a bore, too). He beat everybody he fought. He avenged all of his losses. He was considered now one of, or perhaps, THE greatest furry boxer of all-time. His legacy would be set in stone...if only he wins one more fight, against the awesome Floyd Phoenix.

The hedgehog did not forget his promise to keep. On January 2001, in the Astral Plains, the huge fight took place. Whoever would win this fight would be considered the greatest fighter in his era. This was not a boxing match--this was a war. The two greats beat the holy hell out of each from the opening bell to the final bell. Each man got knocked down twice. Both were cut, bruised, and exhausted. At the last twenty seconds, Phoenix nailed Paladin with a tremendous left hook and had Roy almost out on his feet. Floyd pounded on the blocking Paladin and nailed him again, and Paladin's hands dropped, as he was half knocked-out. More wicked punches bounced off of Roy's unprotected head, and another five seconds of this and the fight would have been stopped...but the champion was saved by the bell and thus the fight was over.

The final scores were read. "Judge A has it 113-111, Paladin! Judge B has it 113-111, Phoenix! Judge C has it 112-111 for the winner...and STILL the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion...Roy!...Paaaalllladiiiinnn!" Floyd was crushed. He gave 150%, and still it wasn't enough. He went into a deep depression afterwards and would not fight for another six months. Roy was relieved and felt like sleeping for a week. Roy then said that Floyd Phoenix was the greatest fighter of all-time, next to himself.

Roy decided that enough was enough. He had nothing left to prove. He had beaten everyone he faced, and avenged his losses convincingly. So, in March 2001, he said goodbye to the sport of boxing again, and left his belt vacant. A month later, a warrior by the name of Palatanis won the vacant belt by a sixth round technical win, stopped due to cuts on the opponent. He made several more easy defenses. Several weeks later, the new champ faced a madman by the name of Soak-ahn Sasma (won had many scars, and fought in a berserker-like pace), who was brothers with Nails Nash Nexus and Deuteromus (another Fiend who boxed, which I did not mention--he lost to Roy and Floyd). Sasma, the Prince of Fiends, and son of the King of Fiends, Kusahm, attacked full-force non-stop, and was awared the victory. He seemed invincible, until the Fiend fought of all people Bud Gabson (the kid who got Roy's autograph in the past). Bud dominated Soak-ahn throughout the whole fight with tight a defense and counterstyle boxing, and dropped him in the eleventh. He dropped the champ again in the twelfth round, and when he got up, tasted a left hook from hell. He somehow managed to get on his feet, but his cornerman wisely stopped the fight. Bud Gabson was the new champion in late 2001.

By this time, Bud and Roy were good friends. Roy was sort of a mentor to him, giving him tips and whatnot. Paladin, long since retired, took up an interest in art, and wished to improve his skills as an artist. They talked about Roy making a comeback one last time, and how much money would be made from it. They agreed that they would both donate the money to charities.

DEATH OF A LEGEND

One day, in April 2002, Roy and Bud were talking in one of the Mystic Paladin Shrines in the Astral Plains, when suddenly, the King of Fiends, Kusahm bursted through the wall. "WELL, WELL, WELL...IF IT ISN'T THE MIGHTY RAT, AND THE MUTT WHO BEAT MY SONNN...PREPARE TO DIE, RODENT!!..." The Black Dragon swooped in towards Roy, but Bud jumped in the way, blocking him. "FIESTY ONE!" snapped the huge demon, as he hammered the Heavyweight Champion with a single blow, knocking him out cold. "HAHAHA!! SOME 'CHAMPION'!" boasted the dragon. "Now you'll have to deal with me, lizard." challenged Roy. He powered up to his maximum power and nailed the dragon with a right, and snapped his head back. "Hypernuuuke!!", shouted Paladin, as he leaped back and unleashed a mighty Hypernuke blast. That did nothing. Roy then materialized a sword, and slashed away. Kusahm bashed Roy with his tail, then grabbed the sword and broke it into pieces. "SILLY FOOL!!" Kusahm smacked Roy with his palm, and Paladin went crashing unto the floor. They went back and forth, and the energy Roy was expending was making him tired. Kusahm tried to quickly devour him, but Paladin swooped back and nailed Kusahm right to his mouth. CRACK!!

One of the Fiend's black fangs were chipped out due to the blow, and he spat it at Roy, but the hedgehog dodged the attack. A mighty dragon headbutt clashed into Roy, sending him spiraling through a wall. He crawled back in, but got hammered by several energy blasts which came from Kusahm's mouth. Bruised and bloodied, he tried for one more huge blast. "Again!!", screamed Roy as he fired another Hypernuke blast at the Black Dragon. It merely singhed him. "HAHAHAHA!! IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?? HERE! LET ME SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DOOOONNNE..." Kusahm fired black beams of light from his eyes (called a "Deathnuke"), and hit Roy Paladin full force. His body started to smoke, and moments later he screamed out in pure agony. Kusahm drooled in delightful pleasure of his pain. Bud then woke up to witness this. Roy's screams reached a peek, his whole body seemed to blur for a split second, and in a flash he exploded into thousands of pieces. "ROOOYY!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!" Bud screeched. All that was significantly left of Roy was a burn mark on the floor and some smoke. "HAHAHAAAA!! THUS THE FATE OF ALLLLLL WHO DARE OPPOSE ME AND MY ARMY OF FIENDS!!" He turned to Bud. "TELL ALL OF WHAT HAPPENED HERE! I SHALL CELEBRATE BY FEASTING ON THE BONES OF THE INNOCENT!! FAREWELL, WEAKLING!!" Kusahm flew upwards, crashing through the ceiling, and thusly feasted on innocent townsfolk thereafter.

"Roy...no...I...I can't believe!..." Bud sobbed. Then it hit him. This didn't have to be the end of his friend. "Tha-That's RIGHT! I can help him...but only with the next half hour!" Bud took out and hurled a wing of Wyvern into the air, and moments later, a friendly tornado spun in through the hole in the ceiling that Kusahm left, and carried Bud to the Temple of Dhama a moment later. Bud ran through the gates, "Isis! ISIS! We need you!!". A short, purple-furred anthro cat answer him. "What's wrong, Bud??" "It's Roy! He's...been killed! He needs your magic! His body's been completely destroyed! No time!" Isis then grabbed her buddy Layne, and then Bud and chanted. "Return!!" she said firmly. Seconds later, another tornado, larger than the last one, swarmed in and carried all three of them to the Mystic Paladin Shrine.

They gathered around the ashes of Roy's last stand. "Here," said Isis to Layne, "break up this Leaf of the World Tree and spread the pieces in a circle around the ashes." Layne did just that. "We have exactly one half hour to revive him since his body was destroyed." she stated. Isis started to chant a spell. Bud paced nervously. Layne then realized that his head felt very light, and felt like he was about to pass out. "Not NOW!" he thought. He fought through yet another panic attack, yet managed to help his friend out. Twenty minutes have past since Roy's been demolished, and now Isis finally ended her chanting and shouted "Revive!". Nothing happened at first, as the other two stared in anticipation. Then, these strange lights sparkled above the spot...

The sparkles formed a small ball of light, then it grew bigger to the size of a person. Suddenly, it flashed and made everyone cover their eyes for a second. Then, a body fell from mid-air to the floor a couple of feet. It was some anthro wolf, with blue fur. He appeared to be the same size as Roy. "Who's THIS?" inquired Bud. "Who are you?", asked Isis (even though she knew). "I'm...I'm Roy. What happened?" stated the wolf. It was now that Bud noticed that the wolf had a third eye in the middle of his forehead. "Yer not Roy! You're some wolf! And what's with the freaky third eye??" Bud interrogated. "I AM Roy! Roy Paladin. The last thing I remember I was fighting for my life and..." he paused. "What happened? Where's Kusahm?"

The truth then hit Bud and Layne. Bud told Roy what happened, and asked him why he is a wolf. "I...I died? And now I'm a wolf?" They went outside and Roy saw his reflection in the water. "Well, I'm still pretty! ...But why do I have a third eye? Oh well. I'll eventually figure it out..." Isis pondered, and then explained. "Kusahm figured that we would try to revive you, so his dark powers tainted your soul, trying to turn your spirit into nothingness. Your powers as a Mystic Paladin still existed, and countered the force. Just be thankful that you still exist. You probably can't be changed back into a hedgehog, and I don't know why you are a wolf, let alone have a third eye. Sorry." "Thank you..." said Roy.

Later Roy would realize that his powers as a Mystic Paladin were totally gone, and had the feeling that his extra eye had some "knowledge of the universe". No more flight, no more heightened sword-fighting abilities, no more increased strength, no more Hypernuke blasts. "Oh well," thought Roy, "I guess being a wolf now ain't so bad."

STORIES OF ROY PALADIN
replied on: 2/11/2004 12:19:01 AM

PAST HIS PRIME

Roy had been long since taking up an interest in art, mostly drawing, since he retired. He decided to put the pencil down and pick up the gloves once again. On March 2002, he faced his friend Bud Gabson for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. Bud had been cocky in the pre-fight conference. When asked if Roy having three eyes worried him, since he would have better vision, Bud responded, "I'll blacken all three of his eyes!". Roy said little, which was unusual for him. Ever since he became a wolf, he has changed. He became more quiet, more humble, and wasn't the smooth, fast-talker he used to be. His voice seemed subdued, almost seemingly timid. He avoided eye contact a lot, even though he had plenty of eyes to spare.

Round One. Bud did little, as he was still in awe of actually fighting his idol. Roy charged forward and landed some shots, and the crowd went wild. That round went to Roy. Then Bud settled down and started to box and open up his offense. It was an easy night for him. Roy couldn't keep up and never seemed to hurt Gabson once. Bud picked up the pace round by round, and before you know it, he was pounding at will on an almost helpless Roy. He even talked some trash. Roy just was not used to using his new wolf body, and he was getting battered. Mercifully, the referee stopped the fight after the end of Round Nine. The crowd booed Bud Gabson, who had the audacity to beat up their hero. Bud would gain a huge ego boost ever since this fight, as deep down inside, a part of him was still that kid who got an autograph from the Champion, and now, here the "kid" is, who IS the champion, and just annihilated the former. Bud would later apologize for being rude before and during the fight, and they still remained friends.

Roy Paladin would once again retire (he said this time for good), and go back to making his art. Bud would then challenge, of all opponents, Kusahm himself! Kusahm, however, has the ability to transform into a much smaller and weaker form, an anthropomorphic panther, who is 6' 6" and 256 lbs. He can box well, and is, above all else, a powerhitter. In fact, he is the most devastating puncher of all-time. He literally killed his first opponent in the ring and was proud of that. He would later beat and take the life of Palatanis. As of this point, Kusahm is undefeated.

Kusahm would face Bud Gabson for the title in June 2002. Bud would win only a few rounds. He would get rewarded with a broken jaw and cracked ribs. He did last the distance though, as he would be the only person that DIDN'T get knocked out against Kusahm (much like Paladin when he lost to Phoenix long ago). Kusahm was proud to bring the Title back to "the family". He beat some unworhty opponents easily. Then he decided to face a fighter by the name of Floyd Phoenix.

August 2002. Floyd Phoenix, who did't hold a title since 1998, wanted to challenge Kusahm for the Undisputed Championship. The first half of the fight, Floyd got pounded on. He got hit tremendously, way harder than Roy could ever hit. But, he fought through the pain. He looked at Kusahm and asked angrily through the mouth-piece, "Is that all you GOT?!". He then started to pick up the pace and put on the pressure during the second half of the fight. Actually, during one of the rounds, Kusahm kept holding and hitting, which is illegal, so referee Layne Aicman took a point away from him. When the final bell rang, and the cards where anounced, Floyd Phoenix was the new Champion by a VERY close margin. Kusahm was enraged. He transformed into his dragon form. He then looked at Floyd. "WARRIOR, YOU HAVE PROVED YOUR WORTH. I SHALL NOT KILL YOU THIS DAY." He then blasted a hole through the ceiling, and fell off, taking out his frustrations on others.

Floyd would continue to reign as champion, beating a random opponent in the first round, Deuteromus, Soak-ahn Sasma, another opponent in three rounds, drawing with Bud Gabson, and then winning the rematch in the seventh on points (it had to be stopped due to an accidental headbutt on Bud). Roy would not fight Floyd again, since he stated that he had had enough of his share of the cat (he would have other plans...). Floyd Phoenix is the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion today (February 2004), and intends to stay that way.

STORIES OF ROY PALADIN

LIFE AFTER BOXING

Roy would then travel to another realm to be with his buddies, Floyd and Isis, as they fought against monsters and demons. Roy wasn't confident enough of himself yet to help out, so he stayed behind in "the Pub" and drank ales, made jokes, and argued with his smart-mouthed pet hamsters. He met himself, who traveled from the past, but did not dare tell himself of his future fate, fearing that he might challenge Kusahm and lose, and alter time itself. Roy also made other warrior friends there, too.

Roy would take breaks from the Pub, and travel to another realm where he built up his fighting abilities. He trained with Valor and his friends, and with Zoltor later. He also trained in a boxing gym to build himself up again. He even travelled to watch Floyd defend his title, and loudly rooted for him.

Roy would join an art community where he improved his skills, along with making many friends. He did art trades, complimented many peoples work, and they complimented his work back. He and a friend even took out a mime (there were rumors that it was an evil mime, but even if he wasn't, oh well...).

Roy Paladin was tired of only sitting back and watching his Chosen warrior buddies be in all the action. Roy decided to join the party (this was right after his younger self went back to his own time). He took up the art of Summoning. His third eye is responsible for the magical powers that he does have. He took classes in Ancientia for Summoning, and is learning to first summon a small pack of wolves. He also discovered that he has the power to read minds, but only in a flash. He worked to develope that skill.

The quests and story of Roy Paladin are in no way over. This isn't the end of his legacy, perhaps somewhere in the middle...

STORIES OF ROY PALADIN

August 13th, 2004 (in his world).

Kusahm beat warrior Floyd Phoenix on points a few months prior to reclaim his crown. Someone wanted to challenge the two-time champion. That someone was Mr. Roy Paladin.

Roy wasn't the weak wolf that he was two years before. He was a lot tougher, physically (and mentally). He seemed to be getting stronger as time progressed. The boxing world almost dropped its collective jaw at the thought of Roy challenging Kusahm, the beast who killed him in the past. They did not want to see their hero laid out on the matt, unconscious and bleeding.

Kusahm did fight Roy one night in August. He nailed the wolf with a right hook from hell in the opening round. Roy fell like he'd been shot. He struggled and got up at the count of nine. Soon afterward, the bell ended.

His friend, Evil Ed, was in his corner as his trainer. He kept encouraging him and giving him tips. Throughout the rounds, Roy kept talking trash into Kusahm's ear. He said things to get inside his head, and it must've worked, because Roy was still standing after round 6. After round 8. After round 10...

The 12th and final round. Roy's eyes were bruised and swollen shut, but his third eye allowed him to see, so he would be allowed to continue. The champion and challenger both traded two knockdowns each. Roy countered Kusahm's attack, and landed a fierce combination, which floored a tired and weary champion. The ref stopped the fight. Roy Paladin reclaimed his Undisputed Title by stopping the demon who killed him. Probably not as justifiably equal, but it was a sweet moment nonetheless.

Roy also proved to the world that he wasn't the same weakling that he was years ago.

November 13th, 2004 (in his world).

Bud Gabson, still bitter after losing to Phoenix in their rematch, wanted a title shot at Paladin. He did pound on him to a point where Roy was almost helpless, didn't he? Well...okay. He knew that that wasn't the same Roy as now, but he did beat him once, and planned to do it again.

Here is Bud in training:

The fight:

They traded shots, but Bud had a tighter defense, and pumped out his jab, which seemed to be better than Roy's. Roy was quite game and competitive, and was winning a few rounds, but Bud was ahead, and unhurt.

Then, it happened.

Roy threw a wicked overhand right. Bud ducked slightly and it landed flat on his forehead, opening up a nasty cut. Roy saw that wound as a target, and landed shots on it, further exacerbating the flow of blood. It kept getting into Bud's eyes, and eventually the doctor stopped the fight. Bud was rebelling, as usual. He wanted to continue, claiming that he could see (at that moment, the blood poured into his right eye again, proving him wrong). Roy avenged his TKO with a TKO victory over Gabson of his own (in round 8, one round prior to his loss to Bud years ago nonetheless, even though it wasn't as dramatic as the first act).

They will have a rubber match very soon.

STORIES OF ROY PALADIN

Basic Profile Info:

Name: Roy Paladin
Age: 27
Sex: Male
Species: Anthro Wolf (with three eyes. Originally was a hedgehog.)
Occupation: Prize Fighter, Beginner Summoner, Artist.
Ht: 6 feet, 2 inches
Wt: 215 lbs of lean muscle
Eyes: Two blue, one gold.
Fur: Blue
Powers:
Some psychic abilities, incredible physical, mental, and emotional toughness, can summon wolves for assistance. Rumored to be protected by angels, whom most cannot see. Has an "inner" version of himself within his own mind, which can fuel him in times of crisis (for instance, a Psychic Attack). There is another "version" of Roy in another dimension, which is a doll-like entity, tied up to a pole and stabbed occasionally by dark entities.

Personality Traits:
Usually acts pretty immature and goofy with those close to him, but is much deeper than he would project. There is more than meets the eye. He has above average intelligence, but can be very lazy.
He is not one to feel self-pity, and does not quit in battle. He is incredibly and surprisingly tough.
He drinks ale at times like a fish, and holds his liquor very well.
He enjoys company, but is a natural loner. He never speaks of his romantic pasts/interests. His voice may sound "flat" or monotonish at times, and doesn't really make that much eye contact, despite having three of them.
He loves to laugh, and can sometimes have a darker sense of humor. He is loyal to his friends, and will fight along side them in battle to the end.
Can see things 100% objectively at times (in order to solve things out without emotion interferring), and is terrible at multi-tasking. Always carries a few healing items and such just in case.
He is one to help out someone in need, and is very generous by nature. He enjoys his spear, which he purchased a while ago.

Here is a profile picture of him:
