| herbert Quote | Reply | | Improvements posted on: 12/14/2003 8:24:00 AM The main problems might be that 1)there is absolutely nobody who has studied the complete wealth of mathematics come to us through the centuries. 2)the language barrier; you need latin, french, italian, english, russian etc. to be able to READ at least what has been printed 3) you have to have access to VERY good libraries who are in the possession of all mathematical journals and books and do NOT bury them deeply in the basement 4) you have to have at least some taste for the stuff and must be able to understand at least the most important papers/points of the subject 5) you must be willing to learn and be willing to give advice if needed 6)you must be able to communicate and have the means of doing so 6) there is no common sense of respect for those who are able to fulfill almost all of the points mentioned above These are the reasons for some of your problems Herbert |
