I am not getting the answer. pls help me There are 5 members in a mess. Their 1 month(30 days) food expense is 2000$. They are preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cost of breakfast is 25% of one day's expense, lunch-35%,dinner-40%. This month all the 5 persons had 61 breakfast, 67 lunch and 100 dinner. Then calculate the amount per one lunch. |

replied on: 3/4/2004 8:41:56 PM Sometimes it's easier to deal with percentages if you see them as actual dollar amounts rather than percentages. The cost of each type of meal is then the dollar amount times the number of that type of meal. 61x$25=$1,525 67x$35=$2,345 100x$40=$4,000 Adding up the dollar amounts gives $7,870. But you only had $2,000 so the actual total cost of each type of meal is some fraction of $7,870 found by dividing it into $2,000. $2,000/$7,870 = .254 Multiply that fraction by the total amount the lunches cost .254x$2,345=$596 Then to find the cost of each lunch you only need to divide by the number of lunches. $596/67=$8.90 per lunch If you tried to squeeze everything I just said into one equation and reduce it down, it would look like (2000x35)/[(61x25)+(67x35)+(100x40)] But that seems less intuitive to me. |

replied on: 3/5/2004 6:49:42 AM This is a very simple problem Given : Monthly Expense $2000 so to find the monthly expense over the lunch which is 35% of daily expense we get total expense for lunch = (35 * 2000)/ 100 = 700 total lunches had = 67 :. cost of 1 lunch = 700/67 = 10.45 (approx) max |

replied on: 3/5/2004 7:00:14 AM quote:You gave the solution if 35% was the total cost of all the lunches they made. It isn't. 35% is the cost of one lunch as compared to the cost of a breakfast or dinner. If you you use the formula I gave for all three types of meals, you come out with $6.33 for breakfast, $8.90 for lunch and $10.17 for dinner. Adding those up gives $25.40 for one day's meals of which breakfast is 25%, lunch is 35% and dinner is 40%. If you multiply the cost of each type of meal times the number of that type of meal they made, you get $388 for breakfast, $596 for lunch and $1,017 for dinner. Those numbers add up to $2,000 which was the total cost for the month. |
