Probability of common elements
posted on: 4/25/2006 11:48:02 AM

I create N sets of size K by randomly selecting digits without replacment. E.g. with N = 3, K = 4 I might get

{{4 7 8 3} {1 9 2 8} {6 5 7 8}}

Here, there's one element (8) common to all sets. What's the probability of this outcome? In general,
What's the probability of ending up with M elements common to all sets?

Very grateful for any help
