L'Hopital's Rule
replied on: 6/14/2006 11:55:52 PM sorry, I meant rights, not writes. But anyways, another example of misnaming is with both the Taylor and Maclaurin expansions- neither of which came from Taylor or Maclaurin, but rather independently from both, a scottish mathematician named James Gregory in 1668, and John Bernoulli in 1690. Taylor and Maclaurin simply popularized the ideas associated with their names, hence them being crowned discoverers. |
