Zeno paradox
posted on: 6/14/2006 11:38:35 PM

Back around 450 BC, Zeno propsed the idea that motion cannot exist, though it obviously does, because in order for motion to take place an object has to go from point A to point B, but before it can do that it has to go to 1/2 the way to point B, but before that it has to get to 1/4 the way to point B, and so on. Therefore, since infinitly many divisions of this type need to take place in order for motion to commence, motion cannot start until time reaches infinity.
