replied on: 8/4/2006 8:03:15 PM First, create a triangle by making a perpendicular line from one end of the shorter parallel side to the longer one. Now subtract the length of the shorter parallel side from the length of the larger parallel side and divide by 2 to get the length of the base of the triangle. Now set up an equation using trig definitions. There are many which can be used if you have all the angles, but for example, by using x as the angle formed by the longer parallel side and the adjacent slanted side, a as the horizontal height, and b as the base of the triangle: sin(x)=a/b; therefore: a=b*sin(x), now simply plug in the given values and you have an answer! |
