literary/logic inversion
posted on: 12/12/2006 5:20:09 PM

I am new to the site, but have performed a prelim search here for this topic, but have not found it havingbeen addressed. I am a literary type, almost phobic about mathematics. I am not fond of having any deficit, and would like to remedy my inability to speak math fairly fluently. Does anyone here have an ideaof a website that can hold my hand and stroll me into the world of absolute logic?

You looking for the basic symbols? Or more in-depth predicate logic etc.?

If I assume it's the previous, go to some really good library (i.e., some university library) and search for a introductory book on proofs.

Otherwise, if you're looking for the meaning of all those crazy symbols, find the best linear algebra book you can find, usually they simply have a short page-like dictionary for what they mean in an appendix or the front page.

Get the CRC Press Encyclopedia of Mathematics for all the symbols you could ever need, as for logic- your best bet would be to get a book on introductory discrete mathematics, or naive set theory (as formal set theory is vastly more abstract).
