The amount of water filled by the machine, while remaining close to one liter, varies from bottle to bottle. The amounts filled in bottles can be modeled as a normal with standard deviation and mean 1 liter. The manufacturer wants to set the standard deviation such that nearly 86.64 percent has fill between 0.775 and 1.225 liters. To achieve this, the standard deviation should be set close to… I've hit a wall. I have no idea how to do this problem. I have a feeling it has something to do with a z-score, but I can't figure out how to relate the scores back to the standard deviation. Any help would be appreciated |
