So, he wrote Dune and associated books, but recently i've been given a stack of non dune stuff, and its as good, sometimes better. I've just finished dune messiah, eyes of heisenberg and the godmakers and loved his brand of sci-fantasy. anyone else like or love his stuff?

How were the Dune books? I've been meaning to try them.

I'm not a big lover of reading fantasy so I'm probably the wrong one to ask. Lets just say I prefered the movie The books were too technical and detailed and slow for me.

UM...I think you mean not reading SF don't you Rune???

I've read the Dune books and liked them. Only a handful of SF classics I've read to date....

Like you not a big SF fan as I don't like the technology aspect, it reminds me too much of our modern lives, which fantasy helps us escape from to a certain extent.

Im pleased you knew what I mean Goll Because at times I sure dont know what I mean

SF is a bit too like real life or a possible future of how we live now. Like I mentioned I can watch it in a movie, but when you try and read this stuff it's too heavy going and boring

Yeah, that's why I like fantasy too. If it has too much of the techy stuff the book has lost me. Sometimes though there are sci-fi out there that can be escapsim books too.

I don't think I could have followed the first Dune movie without having read the book first. The miniseries had more time to explain and was easier to follow blind. I read the books in the late 1970s and thoroughly enjoyed them but if I remember right, I kinda let some of the more technical explanations go so that it wouldn't interrupt the flow of the story. There were a couple of spots where I had to go back and straighten myself out. I did read "the Eyes of Heisenberg" many years ago and I seem to remember enjoying it but I couldn't tell you what it was about.
