I've considered getting this authors books but thought they may be a bit young.

What did you think?

I've read all her YOung Wizard books because my son loves her work. I thought they were a bit young in feel but still cute. He was 9 when he read them and they have that late elemenary, early middle school feel to them.

Yep I thought they would be for the younger readers. I quite like Teen stuff, but the younger reading quite often is too young for me.

it was a bit simplistic, but i still enjoyed it. be warned though, i've recently re-read the little white horse and the secret garden and anne of green gables, so i'm not put off by it at all.

You might like "Charmed Life", Rune, since in spite of the young protagonist it's not as little-kiddish as some of her other books. In fact, the first time I came across Jones was when this book was published by Pocket Books as straight Fantasy, without any YA or Juvenile label.

The Dalemark books, starting with "Cart and Cwdder," tend more to YA than younger readers. (Officially, the first book is "The Spellcoats" but it's connection with the rest of the series is somewhat remote and isn't apparent until the later books anyway.)

And "Howl's Moving Castle" is definitely YA. It's also quite funny, and some of the humor would go right over a very young reader's head.

I read Power of Three, and quite enjoyed it, finding it especially well-crafted in how many parallels she'd drawn between generations of the characters, i.e. how the magic had brought together descendants of the original curse, how there was always a representative of the three main species, and how it was easy to recognise a few philosophical points.
