One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them? Yes!!! Now, to start the thread off I'd like to post something of my own: Darkness A timeless level of existence bereft of the ephemerally gentle touch of light on pallid skin. In the end, it’s the silence that is the worst. The veritable tranquility that drives a man insane. His mind was lost. Lost in the ubiquitous darkness, hiding in shadowed corners. Doomed to forever tread unfamiliar paths, forgotten the feel of the cool spring breeze blowing through the hummocky hillside, forgotten the reminiscence of the cold tremors as an aftermath of the burningly hot summer sun as it gently brushes the skin with its sensually silky caress. In darkness the passage of time is…negligible, and in the end, inconsequential. No passing of light and dark, not even murky twilight by which to measure passing minutes, hours. In the end every minute of darkness stretching into vast infinity. A sniff came from the scrawny, emaciated body garbed in torn rags bleached by countless years of sunlight and intermittent gloom. Outside the raging of thunder, its syncopating concussions drawing the figures mind ever closer to awareness, to sanity. From the ululating scream of the great storm beyond only the soft whisper of a drizzle reaching him. The only evidence of thunder being the pungent tang of ozone brought down by spiralling tunnels of lightning, making the air cool and fresh instead of the usual damp sultriness. As awareness flickered into life within him, he made a brief attempt to stand up, only to find himself sagging back to the glass-smooth floor, his muscles atrophied and weak from obsolescence and starvation. He loosed a feeble moan and slowly started to crawl about on the floor. Finding the wall he braced his back to it, winded from the strenuous activity. A reeking smell indicated he had fouled himself. As he relaxed his breathing, letting it slow down to a slow sigh, the pain slowly ebbing way, he suddenly became aware of his surroundings and the enveloping darkness ensuing it. Wher- Sudden sounds from behind the wall, the sound of a muted click of a lock and a latch opening. The subsequent stab of pain from the blindingly bright light in his eyes unbearable. The pain tearing through him with iniquitous malice. As he strained to open his eyes, he saw the silhouette of a squat little man's head grinning at him. “Good,” the pudgy little man said ,” you’re awake,” his initial grin fading to a smile. He put the bowl he had been holding in his hands in front of the latch and gestured towards it. “Grub,” he said, grinning yet again. “And by the looks and smell of you, that’s not all you nee—“ A second figure emerging from the shadows. “ Ain’t he a queer one.” “—shut up, Gori, don’t want— now look what you’ve done!” He felt the darkness setting on him again, dragging his mind from his body, a power too strong to resist for long. Darkness Yeah, I know, it's a bit, how shall i put it, overly adjective using? And remember, this thread is for any prose you want to post! To encourage you a lil' more, I might be posting some of my other work aswell :o |
