Usually when i read a book, i write out almost every word i don't know and after finishing the book i translate the words into estonian and look up as much english synonyms as i can. But the most daunting task lays still ahead. Ofcourse i could learn these words by heart, but will that suffice and will i start actually using those words in my writing? Let's just say that i'm a bit skeptical about that. So what i devised is this simple but foolproof plan for people to learn new words and hone their writing skills to newer levels of acuteness - write a story and in each sentence try to use a new word that you've searched up. What do you guys think about it? |

learning new words
replied on: 3/5/2006 2:03:05 AM ![]() Sounds good. After years of reading I'm still encountering new words but the only way to use them is by practicing to put them into context in conversation or writing. Conversion is good but can be embarrassing after using a word your not totally sure of then getting a few blank looks. |
