Priestess of the White by Trudi Canavan
posted on: 3/22/2006 11:33:44 AM

Auraya has just been named a Priestess of the White, to serve as sword and shield of the gods one of only five so honoured. She finds her unique talents tested to the limit when she travels far from home as an ambassador enlisting others to follow the White.

But Auraya’s relationship with a member of an outcast sect of sorcerer-healers risks bringing her into conflict with others of the White ... and possibly destroying her future.

Overshadowing all this is a powerful and mysterious black-clad sorcerer who seems to have a single purpose: annihilation of the White. And he is not alone.

My impressions on the book:

At first i started comparing POW with the Black Magician trilogy(BMT) since the magic system is fairly the same and people who have read BMT prior to POW will certainly notice many similarities.
I can't expect myself to give an objective view of the writing level between BMT and POW(been about a year since i read BMT), but when first starting to read it, i felt it did not quite live up to my expectations after BMT. One can have such fond memories of the past, only to find their dilapidated ruins in the present.
It may seem from this that i did not like the book, but actually i did. Barring these few minuses, this is a good book and worth reading if you liked BMT.
I already preordered the 2nd book(Last of the Wilds) and was glad to see that it will be coming out on the 1st of May 2006

Hope this helped you, Rune

i didn't want to give much out, since it will spoil the reading if you know what will happen

Hi Fobe, I read this book and I didn't like it. I only enjoyed the last 200 pages and it is such a big book.

I haven't read her BMT, but have heard it is excellent.

Not sure I will be getting the other two books that follow POW. I didn't feel feel connected to the characters although, the only two I did like were Leiard & Emerahl.
