The Jester's game

Ah, so quiet.
I still haven’t gotten used to the tranquility of it all. Without people the city is just a mass of ramshackle stone and grimy glass.
You feel humbled by it.
No birds have set in to live in the city, except those who already inhabited the scarce trees and small recesses and depended on humans for sustenance. Only seagulls, sparrows and doves. I remember hearing from somewhere that in a lone tropical island, dove meat was supposed to be quite the delicacy. The next time I see one, I’ll try out my new crossbow.
“Whadd’ca think, Ol’ Yella?” Wanna bust some caps?”
“Yeah, thought not. Those some big-ass caps.” The boy tried to stay as low as possible as he lay sprawled there on the rooftop. What had caught his attention was a great white polar bear traversing below on the street, sniffing in all the new scents.
“Thank the Lord we ain’t upwind from that fella, eh? Those caps would eat us alive, or dead even…”

“I wonder if I decided to dig up a dead body, would I find ash, maggot-infested flesh or just empty coffins. Whatcha think, Merc?”
The dog just stared at me with those deep-set eyes, taking no notice of my heathen words. Probably just a stupid dog, but you never can be too sure, can you? Well, I mean, I could’ve been abducted while I was sleeping and you could be one of the aliens doing tests on me.
“Now if you was an alien, what information would you gain from observing my actions, huh? Probably something about how we humans think, adapt to a new environment.”
There’s an endless abyss full of possible variations of what could’ve happened and when I say possible, I mean fucked up.
Another possible theorem is that I died in the middle of the night and I could be in heaven. I look into Merc’s sleepy eyes for a moment and then set my gaze on the setting sun as it drifts over the rooftops towards its nocturnal slumber.
What if I did die? Would this be heaven or hell? Or is it limbo? Some empty plane, where my soul lingers, waiting for judgment to be served. I wonder how big the lines are. Maybe I’m idle as we speak, staying in line and waiting for the strike of the hammer: heaven or hell?
“So, how to prove my theory? Exhume a body?”
Maybe…
“But if philosophizing about death is called thanatology and the obsession with dead bodies necrology, then what would exhuming a dead body for thanatological reasons be?”
“Purely thanatology?” Think not.
“A hint of necrology?” Yes, no, maybe so?
“Maybe if I think about it hard enough before hitting the heigh, some divine or infernal force will show me the way.. “
Maybe..
“Assuming that I didn’t die and I’m part of some alien test, I heard about an interesting topic before my mind left my body. “
“The idea was that we humans were actually planted here by aliens so that they could observe us – they started life on Earth.”
“You with me, dawg?”
Merc had conveniently fallen asleep.
“Thought not. But what if aliens did start life on Earth and have observed us for millennia, eons even?“
“You know how much an eon is, Ol’ Yella?”
The doq twitched as if in some particularly unpleasant dream.
“Well, neither do I, but if a millennia is a 1000 years then should an eon be 100 000? I’ll look it up the next time we visit the library.”
“Now, to continue my rain of thought – I think the discussion started with just the effect of television on how we think and then somebody posted a link to the alien thing..
If aliens started life on Earth and have even maybe directed us towards pathways otherwise untreaded and have made the “truth” so unthinkable because of all the alien films and stuff. Because if you even go to a person and tell him/her about the alien theory, he/she instinctively discards it as wrong and you disillusioned for saying so.”
“But there’s the catch, you see? If the aliens or some other force has malformed our sense of what is true and what is not, or logic for that matter, then our senses are crippled. If our logic is flawed then how can equilibrium be achieved, for would that not be imbalanced in truth? It’s a strange notion, speaking about truth when you don’t even have the slightest idea of what it means. Like the Matrix – a spider web of interspersing perfidy and lies, plane after plane after plane.”

“Now that would be cool.”

Don't think it's very good, since it still needs some editing, but for the moment it's good enough.

no need to be coy now, since a certain boy of 16 in Estonia is starting to doubt his writing abilities

It's a bit confusing to me for some reason. Though you've put humour in, it lacks direction: you don't know where it's going to lead because you're not leading the reader. What do you plan to have happen?

basically nothing, just a brief synopsis of a dream i had with some embellishments . i could lead it to where my dream was going ofcourse, but that would mean adding 3 humans...

good that someone finally replied, though
