At the same time the free-born forces have stopped fleeing and are forming a new offense, hoping desperately that the new Federation weapon will stay incapacitated long enough for them to have a fighting chance. But there is another pupetteer behind this evil plot that only a few are aware of, an ignorance that can prove to be fatal for the whole world. Finally i've decided what about Brooks' works doesn't really appeal to me - his lack of depth for the characters. Each protagonist in my opinion has a rudimentary and shallow background and persona, that just doens't let you get the feeling that they could be real people, not just make-believe. Dialogue is as banal as ever, barring some one or two good lines. More to the end, i started to get the feeling that Brooks had run out of good ideas on where to go, since there wasn't anything interesting or worthwile of noting. All in all, i expected much much more from the final book of the trilogy, and i truly hope that Brooks will leave the Shannara world at be until he has some very good ideas on where to go from here. |
