Last of The Wilds - Trudi Canavan
posted on: 5/18/2006 6:06:15 AM

The Pentadrain army has been defeated and are making the arduous journey of getting back home.
The new leader of the Voices has other means of conquest than Kuar, however.
Mirar, taking over Leiard's body, travels with Emerahl to Si, where he discovers much about the past that he has repressed within himself. Aiding the Siyee to battle a plague running loose in Si, Mirar yet again meets Auraya, who still thinks of him as Leiard, her friend and former lover.
But Emerahl is on a wuest of her own - a quest to find other surviving Wilds.

Last of The Wilds was a bit better than the prequel, but it still left some frustrating facts coruscate through my mind. I would have liked to read about the canny Siyee inventor, whose name i have now forgotten , but it seems that the book only contained some fleeting allusions to his activities. Otherwise it was pretty good.

To compare it with BMT(Black magician trilogy), one thing that has to be said is that although her style has improved over her former works and the magic system has evolved into something more mysterious( and my opinon better), but the overall scope and storyline are not a match for that of BMT's. In Last of the Wilds she has tried encreasing the number of protagonists, which came with a price - some chapters are just far short to get into and enjoy.

I'd recommend buying it.

Good to read your thoughts on this book. It's a shame that when some author try to expand their books to much they thin out the character content and story depth. Dont get me wrong I dont like a too indepth story, but from your review I get the impression this needed a bit more.

It's just that after reading such masterpieces from Erikson, i tend to see everything else in a bad light
Don't get me wrong though, Last of the Wilds could use some improvement, but it's pretty good as it is.
