replied on: 5/22/2006 11:06:16 PM I know the name looked familiar. He wrote The Midwich Cuckoos which was filmed as Village of the Damned, twice and Day of the Triffids which was filmed as a movie and a television series. The Kraken Wakes is supposed to be interesting. |

replied on: 6/14/2006 5:03:50 PM The Kraken Wakes is very much a story of it's time period, you can see how the politics of the 1950's influences the ideas and feel of this story. |

replied on: 7/2/2006 5:07:53 AM Had a power failure tonight at around 9:30. Too early to go to bed on a Saturday night and too dark to do much of anything else. Found my battery-powered, backlit Palm Pilot with a newly loaded copy of John Wyndham's "The Chrysalids". I read a little bit in the dark and it was very interesting. |

You have to consider the environment in which it was written and filter out the stuff the came from the times and read the underlying story. |

replied on: 7/19/2006 8:42:12 PM I guess the Chrysalids was released in the US as "Re-birth". It's one of my favorites, but I was reading somewhere that it differs a bit from the British version. Does anyone know what the differences are? |
