Well here goes, not any any kind of order of preference mind -

1 - Harry Potter series - J K Rowling. Still one of my favourite YA reads

2 - The Barimaeus Trilogy - Jonathan Stroud - books 1 & 2 were brilliant, I really enjoyed this series

3 - The Black Magician - Book 1 wasnt OK, but this series got better as it progressed and book 2 & 3 were very good

4 - Pellinor - by Alison Croggon. Dont see much about this author, but I really like her writing and the books in this series have been very entertaining so far

5 - Tales of the Otori - Lian Hearn - really enjoyed the 3 books in this series. There are others that follow, but as yet Ive not been able to get them.

6 - The Saga of Darren Shan - Darren Shan - quite a lot of books in this series, but very entertaining

7 - Keys to the Kingdom - Garth Nix - a very colourful YA series, that Im still enjoying

Hoping to be able to extend this list as I discover more YA authors.

A Wrinkle in Time - Madeline L'Engle
Beauty - Robin McKinley
Obernewtyn - Isobelle Carmody
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - C. S. Lewis
Wolf Tower - Tanith Lee
Dealing with Dragons - Patricia Wrede
A Diamond in the Window - Jane Langton
Dragonsong - Anne McCaffrey
The Silver Kiss - Annette Curtis Klause
The Phantom Tollbooth - Norton Juster

Hmmm-I'm going to have to think about this some more.

There a couple on this list that could be considered sci-fi instead of fantasy, but it's rather iffy either way.

Sometimes I think YA books are better written than adult ones. I'm not dying to read graphic sex and violence, so YA is usually a better fit for me (although, not exclusively). Plus, some of my favorites are obscure books from my high school years--I guess I'm always trying to find some books that capture my imagination as they did back then.

I agree with you. I always like the teen books better than the adult ones...the adults feel they have to go into everything with such immense detail and intricacy that i can never remember at what parts i'm meant to go 'oh! so that's why so and so did that!'

i've had that a lot with childrens books as well as teens...one time i was hunting down a book called 'bird mountain' just because i kept remembering it and longing to read it again, and it was the same with a novel called 'house of birds'

My favorites from high school are the sci-fi ones by Hugh Walters. I've been trying to track down and buy them when I find them. But, hoo-boy! Are they expensive!! I believe I have nine of them and need to buy about that many more. The ones I need range in price from $50.00-$150.00, so it will take a good long while to acquire them.
