Temeraire was meant for the Emperor Napoleon,he is a celestial dragon,they are companions of the Imperial Chinese family.Never seen outside China before.He wasn't meant for some lowly British naval officer. The Chinese want him back,they send an embassy to England headed by the Emperor's brother.The British Goverment cannot afford to provoke them scared that if they do the Chinese will ally with France. What both countries under estimated is the bond between Laurence and Temeraire.The British want Laurence to lie to Temeraire,The Chinese try to tempt Temeraire with tales of how dragons are honoured in China and allowed to roam freely etc. Temeraire isn't going anywhere without Laurence. We follow them in their journey across the oceans.Again the love they have for each other shines through in the face of all oppisition. A delightful tale.The series is different from my usual reads,but I cant see anyone not enjoying them. |
