But to enforce this, he must also stay away from his beloved Molly and all his other acquaintances, save Burrich and Chade. Soon Fitz sets out on a journey to assassinate Regal and find his bedevilled king Verity, who is in search of the mythical Elderlings. Assassin's Quest is probably the best book in the series. It's hard to remember the sporadic thoughts that coruscated through my mind, while reading the book, but i'll still try. Some authors, in my opinion, have serious problems with the retelling of past facts( i mean, when a character is asked to retell everything he has been through), but it is not so with Hobb. I even somewhat liked these retellings. With Hobb's writing you get the feeling that these things really can happen. Assassin's Quest - Robin Hobb
replied on: 9/5/2006 8:22:35 PM I really loved the Farseer books. They were my first adult fantasy series and have opened the doors to so many other great books. Saying that, I don't think I enjoyed Quest as much as Apprentice and Royal Assasin. It took getting used to him not being based at Buckeep and the supporting cast was small, Burich and Chade only really appear a the begining other than in Fitz's dreams and Ketricken and the Fool appear about half way through. I may also be really alone in this but I found the introduction of Dragons a bit wierd. There was very little 'magic' in the other two books, the Wit notwithstanding so the sudden importance of the dragon and Verity's change was all a bit odd. I'm now reading Liveships so the importance of the dragons has become clearer but in hindsight I remember being unsure about it. I can't wait to return to Fitz in Tawny Man....... |
